From April 7 to 8, 2025, representing World BASC Organization, BASC Colombia participated in the 2nd Combating Illicit Trade Summit of Customs Directors-General, held in Cartagena de Indias. The event was organized by the Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT) and Colombia’s Directorate of National Taxes and Customs (DIAN).

The summit brought together customs authorities from 27 countries across the Americas with the goal of addressing shared regional challenges critical to strengthening customs enforcement and cooperation. The agenda focused on the need for more effective coordinated border management, enhanced risk assessment and intelligence-sharing systems, and robust responses to the growing challenges posed by e-commerce and counterfeit goods.

The event also featured the participation of Jeffrey Hardy, Director General of TRACIT; Luis Eduardo Llinás Chica, Director General of DIAN; Andrés Ordoñez, Director of Customs at DIAN, as well as representatives from various customs authorities from all participating countries.

BASC’s participation in this important forum reaffirms its commitment to integrity, transparency, and the creation of a secure environment for international trade, in alignment with the principles promoted by the World BASC Organization at the global level. Customs security and strengthening the collaboration between the public and private sectors represent a shared effort and a collective responsibility.
